It's a Greek Yogurt Invasion!
You might have noticed Greek yogurt popping up in some unusual places lately, from hummus and cream cheese to baby food and granola bars. Greek yogurt's popularity has soared over the past several years; it leaped from just one percent of the yogurt market in 2007, to a whopping 36% this year. Naturally, other companies have been eager to jump on the Greek yogurt bandwagon to get a slice of the profits, so be on the lookout for Greek yogurt creeping into all your favorite snacks.
One of the reasons that Greek yogurt is so popular is the health claims -- it is a good source of protein and often contains less sugar than its regular yogurt counterpart. While Greek yogurt can certainly be a component in a healthy diet, it isn't a miracle food. Brands and varieties differ when it comes to the amount of fat, carbohydrates, and other ingredients, so looking at the nutrition facts is often helpful.
