The harmonious (or devious) union of Doritos and Taco Bell has spawned three different variations of the Doritos Locos Tacos, and American consumers have faithfully eaten their way through those nacho cheese, cool ranch, and fiery crunchy shells. But why do we keep eating them? What makes them taste so good? The New York Times has got the answer, with a great infographic and a snazzy instructional video
Nacho Cheese. This is the irresistible taste — with its coppery, finger-staining dust — that sent Doritos into the processed food hall of fame, and more recently into a partnership with Taco Bell. The resulting Doritos Locos Taco sold at the rate of one million a day when it was released in 2012, and now ranks as the most successful item on Taco Bell’s menu.
