Englishman Named Best Cheesemonger in France

Matthew Feroze, a 30-year-old accountant from London on a sabbatical in France, recently won the Concours National des Fromagers at the prestigious Salon Mondiale de Restauration et Hotellerie in Lyon, making him the first foreigner to win the title of France's most expert cheesemonger. Though Feroze has a longstanding passion for French cheese, at the time of his victory, he had only been working as a cheese professional for about a year, making his feat all the more impressive.

In order to win, Feroze had to complete several different categories of competition, including a blind tasting, cutting cheese to specific weights, as well as presenting cheeses he had selected and matured himself. With his new title securely in place, Feroze is now considering seeking a permanent career in cheese.
