Adopting a Pet? Consider a Goat!
Adopting a pet is a popular option for those looking to bring a furry friend into their homes. However, few may realize that in addition to dogs, cats, and birds, pet shelters frequently offer stray goats for adoption as well.
In Charlotte, North Carolina, an area not generally known for idyllic pastures and farms, a handful of goats are among the hundreds of animals that end up in animal shelters every year. While local ordinances require that stray goats must first be placed up for auction, those that are not sold are then offered for adoption. Dr. Mary Blinn, a veterinarian at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Control, says that these goats make excellent companions, especially if you are also in the market for free lawn maintenance.
