Primarily a purveyor of cheese, chocolate, and wine, the Cave opened in June 2009 with an array of domestic, imported, and local cheeses cut to order and sampled daily. Amidst the shop’s funky antiques one also finds exquisite chocolates made in Maine and a wine selection that is varied and expertly chosen. Owner Laura Cramer also seeks out local organic produce, eggs, and maple syrup and orders wood-fired organic bread from Tinder Hearth Bakery and sumptuous baked goods from Millbrook Company Bakery two or three times a week.
The Cave is also the exclusive distributor of the Flight Deck, a baguette and cheese board crafted from recycled Maine boat trim. Oils, pâtés, pastas, and spreads are scattered throughout the shop; soups are prepared daily during the fall and winter. Sandwiches are made fresh with local greens and breads often layered with cheese and pâté. The Cave also provides creatively designed gift boxes, cheese platters, and corporate gifts.
