Revolutionary Food Choices

As a Brit living in the US and with July 4th fast approaching, historical dates are on my mind. So, last night I decided to refresh my memory about some of these pivotal moments in Anglo-American relations and the repercussions surrounding these events. For instance, how interesting, that Americans decided to symbolically boycott English tea, thereby giving rise to the Boston Tea Party in 1773.

What if it the commodity in question had been cheese? I’d like to think there might have been a pre-planning revolutionary discussion where it was decided that they couldn’t possibly do without British cheese and to opt for tea instead. Anyway, fortunately 238 years later, the importation of British cheeses is still alive and well. Here are three distinctly British cheeses, chosen in the spirit of a shared heritage (red, white and blue), that serve as a salutary reminder to how important it is to stick together – and make the right food choices! Happy 4th – whichever side of the Atlantic you’re on!
