Baby Goats

Austin's picture

Following up from my last post, I rolled out of bed this morning at the crack of dawn and pushed myself out the door with my camera to snap pictures of cute baby goats just born at Rawson Brook Farm in Monterey, Massachusetts. The farm milks 26 goats twice a day (5am and 5pm). While the mothers are being milked, the kids are playing in their pen and are jumping and climbing all over each other. The kids are so curious and sometimes escape from their pens. The new comers are in the process of being named by the crew and family at Rawson Brook. The names are all derivative of their mothers. Susan (the owner of the farm) came up with themes or ‘lines’ of names a while back and has been keeping to it since and even developing more when they run out of names. In the celestial line there are goats with names ‘Luna’ and ‘Stella.’ There is an Indian food line with names like ‘Chai’, ‘Chai Noir’ and ‘Chickpea.’ Then there is a ‘characters Julie Roberts has played in movies’ which attributes to ‘Kiki’, ‘Vivian’ and ‘Anna.’ Currently the crew is developing a ‘butterfly in a foreign language’ line with names like ‘Mariposa’ (Spanish).

Anyone have any other fun or cute goat names??

There really is nothing more

There really is nothing more precious than new born animals. I bet you really enjoyed having the opportunity to snap the photos. Please continue to share your adventures with all of us.

Getting photos of baby goats when they are first born when you simply play on the internet is something that the photographer will never forget if they have perfect timing.

Great post! You really

Great post! You really captured the animated character of the baby goats in your photos. Perhaps, a line could be named after fairytale characters!

Baby Goats!

So adorable! You really captured the essence of spring in your photos! I've always been partial to names from famous operas...."Mimi", "Musetta", "Samson" (and of course "Delilah"), "Aida", "Rigoletto", etc. They seem to fit especially well for the females. Also true of the various Shakespeare characters.

Happy Spring!
